Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a 2022 American mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman. It is the sequel to the 2019 film Knives Out, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as master detective Benoit Blanc as he takes on a new case.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022 Movie – Storyline :

Famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc travels to Greece for his latest case.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the billionaire Miles Bron, owner of the technology company Alpha Industries, hosts a murder mystery party at his mansion, the Glass Onion, on his private island. He invites his closest friends: the Alpha head scientist Lionel Toussaint, the Connecticut governor Claire Debella, the fashion designer Birdie Jay, streamer Duke Cody, and Bron’s former business partner Cassandra “Andi” Brand. Birdie’s assistant Peg, Duke’s girlfriend Whiskey, and the famed detective Benoit Blanc, also arrive. Miles informs Blanc that he did not send him an invitation, but allows Blanc to stay after he suggests that Miles may be a target for murder.

Blanc was hired by Andi’s twin sister, Helen, to investigate Andi’s supposed suicide days prior. Helen informs Blanc that Miles ousted Andi from her role as CEO of Alpha after Andi rejected Miles’s request to release Klear, a dangerous hydrogen-based alternative fuel. Helen believes one of Miles’ friends killed Andi after Andi found a cocktail napkin she wrote the founding ideas of Alpha on, proving her conception of the company. Blanc instructs Helen to pose as Andi for the weekend at the Glass Onion to help him investigate.

On the island, Helen searches for clues. She and Blanc determine that Lionel, Claire, Birdie, and Duke are all suspects: Lionel and Claire, aware of the risks of Klear, staked their professional reputations to support it; Birdie was forced by Miles to take responsibility for a sweatshop that manufactures her clothing line; and Duke was attempting to coerce Miles into a position at Alpha News by using Whiskey to seduce Miles.

Review of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022 Movie):

User Review: I really enjoyed Knives Out and was looking forward to the sequel with much anticipation ever since it was announced. I was, however, disappointed. With Glass Onion, director and writer Rian Johnson shows once again that he can carefully craft an intriguing story with brilliant direction. But with a bigger budget comes many challenges and unfortunately the movie fails when it is trying too be too extravagant and a spectacle for the viewers. The core story is very interesting and after a dull start, the middle of the film really hits it’s stride with Johnson moving his playing pieces about with ease and wonderment. That was when i most enjoyed the movie. But the ending was ultimately disappointing. Childish humour and some sequences that were clearly for spectacle which i can only describe as ‘throwing a tantrum’ ruined this movie for me. I had some fun with this but was left feeling robbed as there was definitely a compelling enough story here for this to be another great movie. I do feel the more intimate character/story driven moments in this film are where it shines and not in the big budget set pieces. Watch this if you enjoy the genre, but please lower your expectations before doing so!
